Is it possible to connect AWS to Jira and get somewhat of a quick view or status of my AWS resources and just have that display on a Jira dashboard?

Hi Devan, and welcome to the Atlassian Community!

AWS Service Catalog Connector for JSM

As Riley already pointed out, the new official AWS Service Catalog Connector for JSM provided by the AWS team might cover some of your requirements, though its primary use case is a bit different, and it doesn't yet provide feature parity with its sibling Data Center app - notably it still lacks support for AWS Config, which would allow you to 'Track AWS resources related to the Jira Issue'.

I expect the feature gap to close over the coming months though, so comparing the resp. tables for Cloud features and Data Center features provides a glimpse on what might be covered down the road.

Potential future alternative

That being said, could you provide more details on your use case, in particular how you plan to identify/select the resources you want to surface on the Jira dashboard?

For context, we (Utoolity) have recently released our Integrate with AWS (Compass) app, which aims to "Link and track your AWS resources [so that you can] integrate Amazon Web Services with your Atlassian DevOps workflows" (you can try Compass for free):

  • We plan to also release (commercial) sibling apps for Jira and Confluence, and one shared feature will be a 'Related resources' capability that automatically surfaces AWS resources in Jira and Confluence based on AWS Resource Tags and/or AWS Resource Groups.
  • You can see an early attempt starting at ~1:26 in a recent demo video for the Compass app (we aim to provide more compact and expressive resource views and status once the Forge client-side UI Kit is generally available, which would also allow us to create an 'AWS resources' Jira dashboard widget and Confluence macro).

If something along these lines would match your requirements, I'd be happy to connect to explore this together.

Cheers,
Steffen

Yes, it is possible to connect AWS to Jira and get a quick view or status of your AWS resources and display it on a Jira dashboard. You can use the AWS Service Catalog Connector app to access the AWS Service Catalog from Jira Service Management, and then create and customize your own dashboard to display the information you need.
