We use Jira for project development and are looking for a good help desk tool. We completed phase 1 of a project and the customer is using the software. They have issues and new ideas while working on phase 2, and want to be able to report those easily. I have looked at JSM, but do not like how it is a whole other project my developers would need to check. Is there a way to automatically create a task in my Jira development project when an issue is created in my JSM project?
Yes, that is possible and you would use automation in order to do this. At my previous job I had a JSM project just for granting access to Tableau, and all it did was creating a task in a Software project every time a user requested access to Tableau via automation and then closed the request in the JSM project.
Thank you. Will the integration work if if they are [System] Incident items and turn them into tasks? Or do I need to remove those options and only allow tasks in my JSM project?

Yes, it will work with any work item types. In the automation you define what type the work item should be in the destination project, and it can be totally different then the item type you use in the JSM project.

If you are changing the issue type, thats fine, you will just need to change the status as well.
