When running the installation 5.4.2 it is showing an error "Problem reading the installation directory."
Jira is already shutdown, and there is no permission issue for the user running the installation file.
A backup is already taken for existing files
The current version is 5.4.1 and we need to update to 5.4.2
In addition to what @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- suggested, I would also recommend that for you to contact Atlassian Support (https://support.atlassian.com) for further assistance on the issue.
Hope this helps.

Check the permissions on all of the directories involved - the Jira home directory as well as the installation directory.
Also, make sure your anti-virus isn't getting in the way, and that the disk is not full.
If it's none of those, then you're going to start to need to read the log files to find out what the error is, both the installer log and then the windows system logs to see why the OS is denying access.

Dear Nic,
Thank you for sharing this, the anti-virus was in the way and we managed to exclude the file paths for the Atlassian installation and home directory paths.
Thank you.
Sara
