Customizing Forms in Portal

Hello,

Is there a training module or other documentation that explains the "Linked Jira Field", "Data Connection" and the "Field Key" functions?

I have been tasked to step up and implement a support portal for our customers as soon as possible. I have gone through the free training for Jira service management, which seems to be focused on the use of the queues and response to a request made by the customer. which was very informative. But our portal is not ready yet.

The generic template is a great start but, does not fit our application. In the modification of the template, I discovered the Linked and Key fields. I just need to know their function. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

John

Hi @John Wylie

Welcome to the community.

The following documentation should help you.

building forms (don't mind to old naming of ProForma, this was the name of the company that developed this option, before Atlassian acquired them and incorporated the function)

But to summarise.

  • Linked field are Jira System or Custom fields (can be  created), if a form field is linked to a Jira Field the data is stored into the Jira DB and can be used for filtering, dash boarding an searching.

Non linked fields will only store the information in the form and can't be used in the previous mentioned ways
  • Key field is used when you will export forms, the name you have given wil be replaced in the export by the value set in the key field.
  • Data Connections can use the JSON data from rest api's to populate choice fields on forms.

Hi Marc Koppelaar,

Thak you for the information and the link to find out more about the fields. I will definitely be reading up on the subjects.  By going back one level in the link there appears to be more information I need to be successful in getting our Service Desk operational.

Thank You
