Is it possible for requestors to add more text fields while creating an issue?

Hello,

I haven't been able to find any solutions or questions like this, but please let me know if the issue has already been solved.

I'm working on an issue type that will require the requestor to add multiple text boxes for the same field.

Use Case- The project manager would like to ask for Hostnames and the Corresponding IP Addresses. There is the possibility for many Hostnames+IPs, and then there is also the possibility for 1 Hostname to correspond with more than 1 IP Address.

Ideally, I would like the requestor to fill out the first Hostname and Corresponding IP fields (both single line text field), then have 2 buttons available to them: "Add another IP Address for this hostname" and "Add another hostname/IP combo", to bring up more text boxes. These could even be 2 fields with yes/no radio buttons. With each new Hostname/IP combo, there would be the same 2 buttons/fields as above.

Is anything like this possible? I have thought of 2 potential workarounds, but I feel like I'm just missing something.

Workaround 1- Make 2 total fields (Hostnames, IP Addresses), each a multi-line text box. I think this would be annoying for the requestor to fill out, annoying for us to measure metrics (cannot compare one hostname in the multi-text box to anywhere else where it might be in a single text box, for example), and there would be a strong potential for mismatches (if hostname1 has two IPs, but the requestor forgets to write it twice, the second IP for hostname1 would instead be matched with hostname 2)

Workaround 2- Make a ton of single line text box fields (hostname1, hostname2, etc) and a ton of multi-line text box fields (IP Addresses for hostname1, etc). This seems tedious and I do not know the amount of hostnames someone would want to enter. Not to mention it would be a pain to scroll past 20+ empty fields when creating an issue.

Any help is appreciated! I'm open to potentially purchasing add-ons as well, because I think there will be more use-cases for something like this. Thank you!

Hi Caroline, did you ever find a solution to your issue above? I have a similar scenario being requested but maybe a little simpler. We have a field collecting a person's name and would like to have a button (like a "+" button) that would create more single line text fields for multiple name entries to that same field. If you never found a solution did you end up using one of the two work-a-rounds you mentioned above? Thanks, Darren

Hi Darren,

Unfortunately, I still have not found a solution. Right now we are just using workaround 1, multi-line text boxes. So far it has been suitable but not ideal. I'll reply here if we figure out something better!

Sounds good. Thanks for the quick reply.
