New workflow editor : "Any status" transition naming limitation

Didier Simonazzi January 27, 2025

Hello,

I'm using the new workflow editor.

I just added two transitions in my workflow of type "Any status to this one". I already have one created with the former editor.

It seems impossible to rename those transitions, they're forced with the name "Any status moving to <name_of_status>" and the label box is greyed, so no modification is allowed.

Hence in the transition list, I can't really distinguish the two with an explicit wording.

Is there something I did wrong ?

Hi @Didier Simonazzi , welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I've just tried, and it looks that if all statuses use 'Any' transition, then the transition name is not displayed in status picker on issue. But if you add at least 1 transition, then you will get the transition names.

Also, note that in the documentation, Atlassian seems to encourage using the 'Any' transition to help prevent users from creating overly complex workflows or encountering strange behaviors on the board. https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/create-edit-and-delete-transitions-in-team-managed-projects/

Hi @Lucas Modzelewski _Lumo_ thanks for your replay. Unfortunately, I don’t and can’t have statuses not linked to the rest of my workflow in my case. Hence, nothing shows up behind the Action button.

Plus I suspect that the move from the old editor to the new one has an impact since out of three cases, I’m able to have one with a name (the one created with the old editor), but not the two others.

I also noticed that now we can have unrelated transitions with the same name which was forbidden before.
