Time in Status output... how do I use?

Paul Warkentin August 13, 2024

I pulled some data/exported for Q1 and Q2 of this year for Jira tickets, and the Time in Status field gives me variations on this:

10018_*:*_1_*:*_6025310_*|*_3_*:*_2_*:*_171802251_*|*_10030_*:*_1_*:*_919390855_*|*_10058_*:*_1_*:*_1098001804_*|*_10016_*:*_1_*:*_0

Can anyone tell me how to use this info?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi @Paul Warkentin

To my knowledge, this field stores all the status data of an issue. Status data are separated by "_*|*_". Inside each status data, there are 3 fields: status id, how many times the issue entered to that status, time in seconds in that status.

So, the input below means:

1_*:*_1_*:*_27411727_*|*_5_*:*_1_*:*_0_*|*_10000_*:*_1_*:*_13451032

Issue has been in:

  • status with id 1, 1 time for 27411727 seconds
  • status with id 5, 1 time for 0 seconds
  • status with id 10000, 1 time for 13451032 seconds

Built-in Jira reports and gadgets offer limited flexibility for time in status. If you prefer using a marketplace app, you can try Status Time Reports app developed by our team which is available for Data Center/Cloud. It mainly provides reports and gadgets based on how much time passed in each status.

Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try without installing the app. For your case, you can have a look at Time in Status for Each Issue report.

For further details, you can have a look at Status Time Reports How to Videos.

App Features:

  • This app has a dynamic status grouping feature so that you can generate various valuable reports as time in status, time in assignee, status entry dates and status counts, cycle time and lead time, resolution time, average/sum reports by any field(e.g. average in progress time by project, average cycle time by issue creation month).
  • You can search issues by Project, Issue Type, Status, Assignee, Issue Creation/Resolution Date(and any other Date field) and JQL Query.
  • Status durations are calculated according to the working calendar you define. Once you enter your working calendar into the app, it takes your working schedule into account too. That is, "In Progress" time of an issue opened on Friday at 5 PM and closed on Monday at 9 AM, will be a few hours rather than 3 days.
  • You can set different duration formats.
  • You can export reports in CSV file format and open them in MS Excel.
  • You can also add this app as a gadget to your Jira dashboards and reach “Status Time” from Issue Detail page.
  • You can enable/disable access to Status Time reports&gadgets and Issue Detail page per project, users, groups or project role.

If you are looking for a completely free solution, you can try the limited version Status Time Reports Free.

If you need any help, feel free to contact us via support@bloompeak.io or schedule a demo with us.

Hope it helps.

Based on my knowledge, the variations are like this:

[Status ID]_*:*_[Times issue entered in status]_*:*_[time in seconds]

The "_*|*_" is the separator for the list of status

example:

10018_*:*_1_*:*_6025310_*|*_3_*:*_2_*:*_171802251_*|*_10030_*:*_1_*:*_919390855_*|*_10058_*:*_1_*:*_1098001804_*|*_10016_*:*_1_*:*_0

  • status with id 10018, 1 time for 6025310 seconds
  • status with id 3, 2 times for 171802251 seconds
  • so on so fort

Hope it helps!

Thank you!

Hi Paul,

Are you currently using any third-party add-ons to generate this data? If not, would you be open to exploring a third-party solution?

Not at this time.
