I'm not able to find the specific answer to my question. I've found loads of stuff about how Service Desk integrates with Jira but not a specific answer to my question which I'd like before I set off on this project.
We have an internally hosted Jira & Confluence instance. We'd like a way for end users of our product to send us bug reports and requests without exposing our Jira to the outside world. We looked at things like web pages and so on but think SD is the way to go. The basic operation will be that a team in our company will read tickets submitted through SD and either respond to them or transfer the ticket to our internal Jira for a specific team to look at.
My question is that the simplicity of cloud hosting SD would be preferred but is there anything I need to be aware of when connecting cloud hosted SD to internally hosted Jira? I'm assuming that they communicate over the API and I just have to exchange the SSL certs and everything will "just work" but I can't find anything that confirms cloud hosted talking to internally hosted is a supported (and secure) configuration.
Some information related to the topic - https://confluence.atlassian.com/confeval/jira-service-desk-evaluator-resources/jira-service-desk-cross-platform-and-cloud-to-cloud-integration
However its recommended to have matching platforms whenever possible as per Atlassian
Hope it helps !

Thanks - that was exactly the thing I was looking for but couldn't find!
