Variable automation

OMHM August 25, 2023

Hi,

I am currently creating several automations that use the director and therefore a specific employee.

Example: Request participants

However, it is possible that this person changes position and my automations will all be reviewed. Is it possible to create an object, a variable, a line of code to modify only one place and all of my automations are modified.

Thanks

Michel

Hi @OMHM

No there is not such an option.

Automation rules contain the actions inside every rule. If there was such an option I could have major implications if a global like variable would be changed.

You would need to review first all rules before changing a global variable as other project admins could have made rules using the global variable.

So there a pro's and con's on having global variables in Automations.

Hi @OMHM

Unfortunately, I don't think this is possible currently. I recommend you post a feature request and see if Atlassian picks it up here: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/requests-feature-in-jira-software/

Sad

I would have liked with a usable constant for an employee. Adding a person was almost that but it doesn't quite meet my need.
