how to create jira tickets from an external page for unregistered users

Camila Lorena Reyes September 24, 2024

Hi! I am trying to create jira tickets from an external page for unregistered users.

I found inside de API the method POST-Create customer request but it asks me for a user id. For new users, how can I do?

Hi @Camila Lorena Reyes

If you are okay with add-ons, Smart Jira Forms, developed by my team, offers a way to handle your use case. With Smart Jira Forms, you can create intuitive, shareable forms that allow unregistered users to submit requests, which are then automatically converted into Jira tickets.

Key Features for Your Use Case:

  1. Publicly Shareable Forms:

    • Smart Jira Forms lets you create forms that can be shared via a public link, meaning anyone can fill them out, even if they don’t have a Jira account. You can embed these forms on your website, Confluence, or create a QR code for sharing.
  2. Automatic Issue Creation:

    • Once the form is submitted, Smart Jira Forms can be set up to automatically create Jira tickets with the submitted data. This solves the authentication problem since the form submission itself triggers the creation without needing a Jira user ID.
  3. Field Mapping:

    • You can map the fields from the form directly to Jira fields, including custom fields. For instance, map form fields like “Name,” “Issue Type,” and “Description” to corresponding Jira fields to ensure the correct data flows into each ticket.
  4. Form Logic and Automation Integration:

    • Use form logic to show or hide fields based on user input, ensuring that the form remains user-friendly and relevant.
    • Integrate with Jira Automation to trigger actions based on form submissions, such as sending notifications, assigning the ticket to the right team, or setting priorities.

Hi Camila,

Thanks for your question on community.

Using Issue Collectors in Jira is a great way to create tickets from unregistered users on an external page.

An Issue Collector is a feature in Jira that allows you to embed a form on your website, enabling users to submit issues directly into Jira without needing an account. More information on Embedding an issue collector into your website is here -

At the moment, this is available only for Company Managed Projects however we have been tracking a feature request with our developers requesting the implementation on Team managed projects. Here is the reference for you to vote and watch -

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Anusha A

Hello @Camila Lorena Reyes ,

The best way to create an issue for external users is to have a default account and pass that in the payload. Hope this helps

Vijay
