Restricting portal group access

Can I restrict access to a portal group to a certain group of customers ?

Scenario is that I want my customers to view only limited portal groups who have signed up for a trial package offering. Whereas, the customes that have signed up for the premium package should be able to access all the portal groups and not just the trial package one.

Unfortunately, this is not possible. The workaround, or solution, is to use different projects.
