Share data with another organization via the Power BI Connector

Flavia Helena September 3, 2025

Hello! How are you?

I have the Power BI Connector and created a database to share with a client from another organization. However, when they try to connect the link in Power BI and log in, they get a permissions error.

Accessing the connector settings, a token was created for it, and I shared the data source settings with the user, but still nothing. My question here is whether, even granting permissions in the connector, there's no way for this client to access this database. Is there some other permission level missing? Or is it not possible to share between organizations?

Thank you!

Hi Flavia,

If you're using Power BI Connector for Jira by Tempo, this is expected behaviour. Our app is built with data security idea in mind in order not to make it a "backdoor" to the customer data in Jira.

Thus, ability to export data with Power BI Connector for Jira fully depends on the Jira user roles and permissions. For example, if I as a user don't have access to certain projects - I will not be able to export this data to Power BI with the help of Power BI Connector for Jira.
You need to have the customer person as Jira users and grant relevant permissions on the Jira level + on the Power BI Connector for Jira level: https://aserve.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PBCFJC/pages/1063452693/Administrator+Guide

After this you should be able to share data.

Hope this helps! In case you need assistance, please reach out to our support team: https://tempo-io.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/6/group/1065/create/1411

Hope this helps!

Anna
