Sort by column value

Brian Fisher September 16, 2021

Is there a way to quickly sort based on a column value?  I see that you can quickly sort either descending or ascending alphabetically but that seems to be it.  My use case is that I would like to see all tickets ever submitted where the reporter = "John Doe" I know I could create a separate queue for this view but what if I want to search for all where reporter = "Jane Doe"?  Certainly can't create a queue for every person who has ever reported a ticket (would be hundreds for us).

This seems like it should be simple enough.  Am I missing something?

Hi @Brian Fisher ,

As far as I understood, you are looking for a filtering instead of sorting. You can use the advanced search option to filter results by any column, in your case by reporter.

Here is the documentation for it: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-service-management-cloud/docs/use-basic-search-and-filters-to-quickly-find-requests-and-issues-in-jira/

Correct, filtering is what I am looking for.  This works, though its clunky.  Certainly would be nice if you could just click on the column and input your filtering value on the fly.  Performing an "advanced query" to accomplish this isn't great

Yes it would be better if filtering on inputting into header of the column. As an alternative, you can

  1. save search as filter with name "filter by reporter".
  2. Then the saved filter will be listed on the left side bar for future access
  3. in the future, after opening saved filter you can type reporter name and search.
