Want to add more options to a field drop down value list

Bindu Shrivastav September 10, 2021

Hi

I tried searching community logs, but being new in admin role and not familiar with all the terminology, I could not find what I am looking for.

I have a custom field ( I think that is what it is called) has drop down list of options to select the values from.  This is a required field for story and bug.

I want to expand this list by adding few more values.

I tried field configuration and field configuration scheme but could not figure out.

Thank you for detailed answer.

Custom fields have a "context".  For select-list type fields, the context contains the list of options for the field.

This looks quite complex, but it gives you the ability to have a single field that shows different option lists depending on the context

For example, imagine a field for "region".  In a project for looking after US real-estate, you might want the context to list the 50 states.  In a project for looking after UK land ownership, you might want the context to list the four countries, or go for the forty-eight-ish counties (and either way, possibly crown dependencies, overseas territories etc)

Contexts are all handled in the custom field settings, not the screens or field configurations.

Go to Admin -> Issues -> Custom fields, and find your custom field.  Click on "configure" to the right, and you'll see it starts talking about contexts.  Even if you only need one single list of options, there will be a context.  Within that context, you will see there is a list of options that you can add/edit/delete
