I am going through my customer list and determining which customers have access to what. I give all of my customers a project role of "Servicedesk customer" to their individual projects. I want to know what additional access/rights or lack of access/lack of rights my customers will have if I make them part of an external group and put them into that external group for their project but also make them a service desk customer at the same time? What happens if they are not assigned any project roles like service desk customer, but they are part of an external group for their project? I hope you understand my question. Thank you so much.
Hi Fahad,
Thanks for reaching out to Community!
I’m not sure if I understood correctly what is an external group. On Cloud, there are two types of groups, the one that gives access to a product and the other that it’s a normal group just to group users.
I want to know what additional access/rights or lack of access/lack of rights my customers will have if I make them part of an external group and put them into that external group for their project but also make them a service desk customer at the same time?
Any customer or user that you don’t add to a default group, for example, jira-servicedesk-users, they will be able to only access the customer portal.
So, if you add a customer to a group you created and add the role Service Desk Customers, they will still be able to access the portal to create tickets.
Also, if you have a project which has the permission to allow anyone to browse the issues, they will be able to see the tickets. You can find this setting on Project settings > Permissions.
What happens if they are not assigned any project roles like service desk customer, but they are part of an external group for their project?
If they are not added to a role in the project, they won’t be able to create tickets in the portal and if the group is not added to the permission to see the project or create tickets, they won’t be able to do anything basically.

Angélica
