Did you mean:

Why do you have to set translations before updating the default Language.

I have our instance set to English (United Kingdom).

When I create projects it makes the default language English (United States).

Jira have seen fit to only allow you to change the default project language once you have set translations for words it deems as not English which are mostly "English (UK) words:

Summary / description etc. etc. it even gives request type names and sentences.

(Who (or what AI?) defined what is English (UK) !!!!? and what dictionary did it refer (not the oxford dictionary obviously).

Surely allowing the language to be changed before translations would be far more efficient for us all !

Additional comment:

I have 60+ projects

The one I have recently created had 21 sections that require translations each section has many translations several are the same words  and translating in one section does not set the other sections, nightmare !

This will take hours per project.

I have raised a bug with Atlassian :-)

HI Matt,

Agreed. Would be nice to have it auto-translate after selecting the language. Even better to see a preview of the changes.

Seen some potential marketplace apps on DC but not one for cloud.
