Hi all,
I want to bulk edit a number of issues parent links. For example, I have 100 stories under a parent but want to edit these to another parent. Step 2 lists bulk actions to choose from. When "Edit" is chose, the full list presented does not include updating parent. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on: JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of advanced features, including the ability to view, and move, issues in their default (i.e., epic/base-task/sub-task) hierarchy.
This is how it looks in action:
This works for any number of issues, so you should be done with your work in no time. Alternatively, you can also view and bulk edit the parent field as a column, using Excel-style copy/paste.
I should also add that JXL can do much more than the above: From support for configurable custom issue hierarchies, to issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes
I don't think you can modify the parent/child relationship during a bulk edit, at least not without an add-on. I could be wrong.
With the Jira REST API, I've always had better luck thinking about "children of this parent" instead of "parent of this child." You might try that approach.

Thanks Jim. I'll run by the appropriate person and see what I can get.

Hey @Dorothy Callahan ~ to change the parent using the bulk feature, you want to choose "Move" rather than "Edit". Then you can select the new parent to move to... HTH

Hi @Jim Knepley - ReleaseTEAM - Hmmm this is curious. It seems this is a feature that will come with the new navigation UI update.
In our sandbox, where the new navigation is enabled, when I go to bulk change some issues, I see "Change parent" as an option in Edit.
But in our production site on the old experience, I do not see the "change parent" option.
Seems like it might be something they're bundling in with that upgrade.
