Control excerpt on help centre for knowledge base articles

When articles are shows on the help centre they display an excerpt of the content.  This can often be quite messy and confusing as it includes headings and other content that doesn't make sense to include.

Is there a way to control this via convention or a special excerpt tag or similar?
