Create an automation programmatically from Jira Service Desk Server version

Mary Sage May 20, 2021

I need an SLA to go off every year for 3 years.  Since JIRA limits you to 10K hours (14 months), this isn't possible.  I use an automation to send the users an email reminding them its been a year.

Once the SLA goes off after the first year, I am able to reset it.  The problem is the automation needs to be restarted.

Does anyone know how to do this?  How to create a new queue with the automation engine for a ruleset?

Thanks.

Hi Mary,

Can you tell us a little more about what you're trying to achieve, perhaps with an example?

Does the SLA of the same issue reset every year? Or is it the same task repeated 3 times, every 12 months, as part of some audit/attestation?

You can use a scheduled trigger to reopen or create the task every year.

For the most assurance, you can use a cron schedule if you know your exact dates in advance.

Cheers, Jimmy

Thank you for replying.

Here's my example, showing my automation (RuleSet) in JIRA Server.

My SLA timer expires after 1 year.  The email is sent and my webhook is called.  The webhook resets the SLA timer for another year.

The problem is that this automation needs to be reloaded into JIRA's queues as a RuleSet so that for year 2 the email needs to go out again & the webhook called again.  The automation is never called again after it is executed after the first yearScreenshot 2021-06-03 115302.png
