Incoming email settings with GoDaddy

We run an Office 365 Exchange server with GoDaddy, however you only support POP/IMAP so using an exchange mailbox isn't possible.

When trying to use a specifically set-up POP mailbox and directing it at the correct GoDaddy smtp server (pop.europe.secureserver.net) I get an error saying:

Unfortunately JIRA couldn't connect to the mail server. Here is what the mail server said: "SOCKS: address type not supported" Check out our troubleshooting docs for help resolving the issue.

Could you expand on what this error means?
