Hiding Fix Version field from a certain user group

Hey Guys,
I have several fields that are visible only internally within the organization but hidden from our customer users, E.g. R&D Comments , Product Comments.
I would like to create another field that will be hidden from our customers Internal Fix Version or at least limit the existing Fix Version field from being viewed by our customers. 

I'm pretty new to the all Jira admin stuff , please help me figure out how to achieve this.

Hi @Edward Edwards - Which version of Jira are you using (Cloud, Server, Data Center) and which product (Jira Software or Jira Service Desk)?

You may want to consider using Jira Service Desk for customer facing issues since it is made to control the content users can see.  Learn more.

Otherwise there are a couple of options:

  • Use an app to manage field security such as Field Security Plugin for Jira
  • Use a hack:
    Place the desired hidden fields on a transition screen (not the view screen) where the transition goes back to the same status.  Then use a condition on the transition to exclude customers from using it.  
    This works for the issue detail screen, but it doesn't prevent them from seeing the fields in filter results.
