How to disable emails on issue transition in automation rule in Next-gen project?

Cannot opt out transition email notifications because there is no "Send notifications" checkbox in "Transition issue" automation rule settings as in "Edit update" rule etc.

Hi @Artem Glazkov

I don't believe it's possible to stop these notifications at this stage - there is a feature request for this, see AUT-1958

In Classic projects, you can manage notifications via the Notification Scheme / removal of the Generic Event in a Workflow.

Your options in Next-Gen are more limited. You can manage some notifications - if turning these off doesn't help, it might just be a feature which could be released in future, such as when the new workflow editor is released (see JSWCLOUD-17434)

To see all current Next-Gen feature requests, check-out JSWCLOUD-17392. If no request meets your needs, perhaps create a new one for managing transition notifications?

I just edited my current notification scheme, deleting notifications for a specific even (Issue assigned in my case), and I stopped receiving notifications for automated unassigns. May help, not guaranteed.

Is there a reason this particular AUT backlog seems to be read only to the public and accordingly is not open to vote on? How is Atlassian actually prioritizing things? Is there no way at all in this case to provide this feedback?

Until Atlassian gets this fixed (I can't understand why they wouldn't add the option to disable email alerts for all automations), I've found a decent workaround:

  1. Create a custom field, I called mine "Automation Triggers" for instance.
  2. Add the custom field to the default screen (not sure if this is necessary).
  3. In the automation(s) you need to disable email notifications, add an "edit issue" action, then choose your custom field in the drop-down.
  4. In the value field, enter "{{#increment}}{{issue.yourcustomfield}}{{/}}" without quotation marks, using the field name in place of "yourcustomfield."
  5. Under "more options," you can then disable the email checkbox.

It's messy, but not TOO messy, and having a field which can be edited by the automation will prevent false errors in the automation log.

Update: Never mind, this does not work for the Transition Issue automation action

Instead of creating a custom field, what also worked for me was creating the 'Assign issue' action manually:

1. When creating the Action for your automation rule, instead of selecting 'Assign issue' select 'Edit issue'

2. From the dropdown 'Choose fields to set', select 'Assignee'.

3. From the second dropdown, I selected 'User who triggered the event'.

4. Open 'More options'

5. Uncheck 'This rule should send emails.'

6. Empty the 'Additional fields' text box.

7. Click Save
