There is no such option to split an issue in Jira Service Desk. You should clone the issue and do modifications to the original one and the cloned one.

If Customer is answering by Mail on an old Request ... we would need to split it from the old Request to a new one ... :-/

This feature is sorely needed - the option to move comments from one ticket to a new ticket, without losing the thread of users who posted each comment, status of internal vs. external, and timestamps/dates of original comments.
