auto update search results

Stephen Marsh April 10, 2019

I have just upgraded to JIRA SD 3.16.1. The generic search field in the top right of the screen now auto populates when clicking in the search box without typing anything. Is it possible to turn this feature off so that no results are auto filled?

Hi Stephen,

This drop down menu in the quick search feature was introduced in Jira 7.8, see the release notes for details.

I did some research on this feature, and it does appear to be possible for your to limit the automatic searches that populate that dropdown menu just by clicking on the quick search box.  To do this:

  1. Login to Jira Server as a system admin
  2. Go to Cog -> System -> General configuration -> click the Advanced Settings button near the top.   If you did this your URL should end like this /secure/admin/AdvancedApplicationProperties.jspa
  3. At the bottom of this advanced settings page there is a setting called jira.quicksearch.max.concurrent.searches
This number value determines how many searches can happen concurrently per user for this auto search and the default is 20.  I found I could set this to a value of 0 (zero), and there by prevent any auto searches from happening

I hope this helps.

Andy
