Restrict Functions in JIRA

Darryl Beckett

Hello,

I manage releases and sprints within JIRA cloud and tickets in the JIRA service desk.

My questions are as follows:

JIRA:

- Is there away I can allow stakeholders to view ticket progress? Through a dashboard perhaps but restirct their ability to comment/edit/change ticket values such as sprint and release? PROBLEM: we have resources changing the sprint and release values on their own

JIRA Service Desk:

- Can I limit the ability for a user to move a ticket from on project to another but still allow them to change status and assign to people?

No, Jira does not "restrict", it "permits", but that just turns the question around.

Go into the permission scheme for the project and check over

  • Who has "Browse project" - if you do not want someone to see issues, then remove their permission to do it
  • Who has edit/comment and other issue update permissions.  Again, if someone should not have a right to do something, you need to remove it, while still allowing others in to do it
  • Manage sprint permissions
  • Move is a bit more complex, but yes, remove the permission to "move issue", and think about removing "create issue" in the target project(s)
