How to add new user for webhook

Markus Thiel May 17, 2018

I have integrated gitlabs into our Jira setup but it's done using my account...
I want to create a gitlab user but without an email.. how do I do that? I can only create by invitation?

Hi Markus,

If you're referring to the user you create in Jira to work with Gitlab, then you can uncheck the Send Email box.

See the first 4 steps listed below (ignoring the part in the article about unchecking Jira boxes):

  1. Login to the JIRA application as an administrator
  2. Go to  > User management
  3. Create User - here make sure to uncheck the "send an invitation" which will prompt you to enter a password that will be the users new password to login.
  4. Click "Create User"

Please note that you will still need an email address to match the user on Gitlab, but you can decide not to send the invitation email.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Shannon

I guess that my assumption was that I should not need to create a new user for each service we integrate...

eg. Lets say we use Gitlab, Slack, Some Build service and a monitor service..

Does that mean that I need to create (and pay for) 4 new users?

Hi Markus,

You don't need a new user for each integration, you only need to do the integration as an administrator.

I'm not at all familiar with Gitlab, but if it's anything like Bitbucket, the user doing the pushing on Jira needs to match the user on Bitbucket. This is due to permissions writing on the external service.
