Jira Automation - Move issue to done if Linked "Fixed by" issues is done.

What I would like to happen.

  • If there is a linked issue "Fixed by" to Bug X
  • And that linked issue goes into a completed state
  • Bug X goes into a complete state.

I haven't found a way to set that up in the current paradigm. In my case I have a project of security bugs that I want an high level view to make sure they are getting processed. I want the devs to create a "fix" story to show they have started to working on it. And then when they move their issue to done, the security bug on my project be moved to done.

Hi @Ming Han Chung

I use Automation in Jira Cloud - if this is Server/DC, I believe these options are similar.

To create this:

  1. Create a new automation rule for your project
  2. For the Trigger, select Issue Transitioned - with the to status as you're "Done" equivalent
  3. Next, add a Branch, with the type of related issues set to "Linked Issues". You can then select your link type to the bug - i.e "fixed by"
  4. If needed, add a Condition - for example, an Issue Field condition to ensure this is only for Bugs, or only Bugs with a certain component, etc
  5. Finally, add an Action, Transition Issue, to transition the linked issue to "Done" - you might need to add in additional fields here like resolution, etc if these fields are needed in your workflow
  6. Give the rule a name and publish it

^ This should automate the action required :)
