Attachment permissions and file uploads in Inisght/Assets

Hi All,

Is it possible to limit who can upload attachments to Insight/Assets objects either by type or globally?

I've done a bit of looking and the only thing I can see which might work is setting the file upload size to 0 or 1 byte.

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin,

Assets introduces 3 levels of permission: Manager, Developer and User. Adding attachment to an object is considered "editing" and the only way I see is to put people  not allowed to upload attachments in the Object Schema Users role, but then they are also not allowed to edit the objects.

Regards,

Jeroen

Thanks Jeroen,

That's roughly what I thought. Having had a discussion internally, we have identified that removing the screen layouts for  Assets object types looks like it might cover our requirement of blocking uploads of attachments for all users.

Hi Justin!

Today I learned something! I've been using Assets / Insight for years now and ... that button "Configure Page layout" has never, ever ... caught my eye! :-)

Thanks for sharing this!

Jeroen

@Justin Deutsch ,

A little bit of caution though ... Via the Configure Page Layout you can tick away the Attachments, comments ... etc.

However on the objects overview (Detail) it still seems to be possible to add attachments (for people in the Developer rol and up):

Hi @Jeroen Poismans and @Justin Deutsch

I've been looking at this issue and I can't replicate what you are doing Jeroen. I've tested with a Manager that does the configuration and a Developer that can create/edit the objects.

As part of the layout configuration changes, I removed the attachment button and the attachment Panel. I'm wondering if you missed the removal of the attachment Panel Jeroen? - it isn't specifically mentioned in the article.

For those interested (future me ;-) ).

To remove the attachment button, uncheck the box next to it.

To remove the attachment panel, select the bin in the top right.Attachments panel.png

When I do the above, I can't see how I can make an attachment. I'd appreciate anyone letting me know if they can still add attachments.

Hi @Geoff Mether _Togetha Group_ ,

Thanks for digging deeper into this!

What I have done here on a different OT so I don't have to blur out everything, as you can see I removed everything Attachment related in the page layout:

Then returning to the object search and selecting the Detail view, you can see while the Drag n Drop might be grayed out, the button to Attach files is still enabled and allows to select and upload files (logged in with a Developer role):

And it actually gets attached:

Thanks for the detailed steps @Jeroen Poismans ... I can replicate.

I think this should be raised as a defect.
