I am trying out the Assets tool in Jira Service Management (https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/service-management/features/asset-and-configuration-management) for tracking all of our computer hardware but I also want to track the systems that the company uses to better keep track of renewal dates, costs and many other things.
I found a limitation within the attribute fields in Assets, in that I can not create a field with a type "currency". This is important to be able to track things like monthly and yearly cost of a service as well as the per license cost.
I went looking for a solution and found the Custom Field Suite app on the app marketplace (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1225290/custom-field-suite-powerful-custom-field-types-for-jira?tab=overview&hosting=cloud) which seemed like a good option, but I can't seem to be able to connect it to the Assets tool.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi @Tyler Park,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
You cannot use an app to add new custom attributes in Assets. Is there a reason why you cannot use a text, integer, or float type to record the cost?
True, I could hold simple pieces of data in a text or integer attribute type, but I was hoping to do something a little more complex like calculated fields. This app also touts calculated fields as a feature, so perhaps this would have been a better question.
Many of our services are billed at a certain amount per user license, so it would be nice if I could enter a value for the number of licenses (55) and then also enter that per user license cost ($10.99) and then have a calculated field that would display the monthly cost ($604.45) and annual cost ($7253.40) to the company.
This would help with budget forecasting and running what-if scenarios.
Today I am using a spreadsheet to track these systems so calculated fields are a given, but I want to elevate our ability to manage these systems. Not that this is specific to the question of a currency field type, but I was hopeful that Assets could provide reporting or even notifications on when systems are due up for renewal (based on a date field) so we could work with stakeholders to determine if the tool is still meeting their needs rather than just blindly paying for the next subscription period.
