Capacity Planning outside of sprints using Advanced Roadmaps

Hello,

  We'd like to capacity plan with our teams using advanced roadmaps but we currently work in a KanBan style. I'd like to be able to set up X hours per team capacity per week. Is that doable?

Capacity in scrum vs. kanban teams in Advanced Roadmaps 

For Kanban teams, work is broken down into iterations which each last one week. You can set the weekly capacity of a Kanban team in either days or hours, but the length of the iteration cannot be changed.

Kanban teams can only use time-based estimates.

However, there are other limitations/restrictions (that are arguably intentional) that you may run into. For example, if you ever to figure out or manage individual resource capacity then you won’t be able to with ARJ.

An argument for this is that Advanced roadmaps were intentionally designed to specifically be used in a pure agile framework. One concept of agile is to be team based not individual based.

However, this is not always the case. Infact majority of companies use a hybrid approach. according to PMI’s study (2019), 60% of highly competent Agile project management companies use hybrid project management.

With that being said, a lot of companies (who use the Atlassian core tech stack) look to use one or more apps that connect/integrate with Jira to achieve a more fulsome breadth and width handle on capacity management and resource allocation.
