Hi there,
lately I'm into the service catalog management topic a lot (again). Formerly we started to create the IT services as objects within Assets. The big advantage was that we were able to add attributes such as a status so that made us capable of managing the life cycle of a service.
Then (in cloud) Atlassian integrated services within JSM projects and we were quite happy.
But there is still one question open that keeps my mind roaming. If we're talking about life cycle management of IT services: how is it possible to kind of "deactivate" those native services one day when they are for example outdated or not of use anymore? Is it ony possible to manage the services in Compass? Wouldn't it be great to have an attribute with options like "Active", "Deprecated", etc.?
Are there any good practices or ideas without Compass or besides deleting them? Which of course I wouldn't like to do!
Thanks in advance and best regards
Bernhard
Hi @Bernhard Lerchl ,
I agree that Services feature might be lacking some functionalities, especially when coming to life cycles. We never encountered this, but I believe the workaround would be not to use native services but rather create separate Assets schema (if you're using JSM Premium) and create custom attributes. At least that's something I've seen some people been doing.
Here's a feature request on this topic on which you can cast your vote: JSDCLOUD-10461 Assets: Enhanced capability of Services object schema like regular schemas
I think I've seen or heard somewhere that this is under consideration, but I cannot say for sure.
I would also appreciate to see if someone has found a 'smart solution' on this.
Cheers,
Tom
thanks for your answer. As I wrote we used to do it with Assets as well but switched to the project's Services then to use the native functions.
I really do hope, that someone will get a smart solution for this as well.
Best regards,
Bernhard
