I am setting up a new project, and have a Custom Field (single select drop down).
On this field, i would "like" to have a description that changes based the value selected
The dropdown contains a list of task types (request annual leave, request maternity leave, request long service leave etc)
Based on what the user chooses, i would like an information field to show saying what sort of documents they need to upload to process this request
Eg. User chooses the Leave issue type
The user chooses Maternity Leave from the custom field dropdown
a little box pops up that shows the user needs to upload a photo of their sonogram (just making this bit up, but they will need to upload specific docs based on the value in the custom field)
Is there any way to do this in Jira Service Desk/Management?
A specific issue type perhaps?

Welcome to the community. As far as I know, dynamic field help text description (based on custom field selected option) is not possible against the portal UI's request type form.
I am assuming you are referring to the portal UI where customers interact with to submit request to your JSM project.

Yes, that's correct, it's for the Customer Portal.
