Hi There,

I have JIRA. The custom dashboard option is not available in our account. We are trying to build a dashboard that displays the clients project details but has limited access to other projects. And also limits there ability to drill down into the individual details.

Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Kindly,

Liz

@WG

Welcome to the community.  All Jira licensed users can create dashboard.  In regards to the dashboard permissions there are two levels -

1) Dashboard Level - The owner of the dashboard can decide how to share the dashboard with others -

  • Group—A group of Jira users.
  • Project—All members or members with specific project roles working on one or multiple projects.
  • Any logged-in user—Any user who is logged in to your Jira Cloud site.
  • Public—Public sharing means sharing the dashboard with users who are not logged in to your Jira Cloud site. Note that if you share a dashboard publicly, it will be visible and searchable on the internet. See Prevent or remove public access for more information.
  • User—An individual user.

2) As you may already know that a dashboard is just a canvas where you add/manage the different gadgets to the dashboard.  Each gadget also have access control because typically you will design it to pull content from a specific project or filter query etc..  The source objects have its own access control.  Example - if you add the "Filter Results" gadget to the dashboard where you specify the filter query to use.  If the filter query's view permission is not setup, then users who have access to the dashboard (because it is shared), they will see errors in the dashboard for the gadget content.

Please let us know more information, so we can further assist you.

Hope this helps.

Hi @WG , welcome! 👋

I understand your situation — Jira’s native dashboards have limitations, especially when you want to display specific project data to clients without giving them access to everything or letting them drill into sensitive details.

I’m Javier Coira, and I help build Dashboard Hub, an app designed to enhance reporting in Jira — including better control over visibility and access.

With Dashboard Hub, you can:

✅ Create dashboards that pull data from specific projects only

✅ Control who can view or edit each dashboard, including external users

✅ Restrict access to individual gadgets if needed (for example, show project status but hide issue lists)

✅ Share dashboards securely with public or internal links, and optionally disable drill-down into issue details

For more details on how permissions work, here’s our documentation:

👉 Manage Permissions on Dashboards

To see how this works in practice, check out a client-facing example dashboard (Agile Team):

👉 Client Reporting Dashboard Example

And here’s the full guide to get started:

👉 Getting Started with Dashboard Hub

Happy to help you set up something tailored to your needs — feel free to reach out! 🙌

Hi @WG

Welcome to the community.

Can you provide more details and screenshots.

Anyone with a Jira account can create a dashboard.

Customers can't view dashboards as dashboards show issue details from inside, therefore an account is required.
