Hi everyone,
I'm currently setting up a public Jira form and I would like external users to be able to upload files (like screenshots or documents) without needing to log in.
At the moment, file uploads only seem to work when the form is private. When accessed publicly, the upload field is not available or doesn't function.
My questions are:
Is there any built-in way to allow file uploads in public Jira forms? (Maybe in the configuration?)
If not, are there any known free workarounds or integrations that could help?
Thanks in advance for any help or tips!
You’re absolutely right — as of now, public Jira forms do not support file uploads due to security and permission limitations. The attachment field is hidden or disabled when a form is made public, and there’s no native configuration to change that behavior.
However, if your use case requires collecting files (screenshots, documents, etc.) without requiring users to log in, you might want to consider using a third-party app like Smart Forms for Jira.
With Smart Forms, you can:
✅ Create secure public-facing forms
✅ Allow external users to upload attachments
✅ Set up email domain restrictions for controlled access
✅ Automatically create or update Jira issues, and map uploaded files directly into the issue
While it’s not a free workaround, it does solve the core problem — securely collecting attachments from unauthenticated users without compromising your Jira configuration.
I'm experiencing the same issue. I'd like to know if it's possible to attach files to public forms, or is this restricted by Jira?

Hi @Nguyen_ Hieu Anh ,
Welcome to the community !!
Go to your JSM project settings -->Request type --> Select the required group and the request from the list
Click on Request type where you need the attachment field and Attachment field to the form.
Attached screenshot for your reference.

Did you just add the attachment field to the form? Because i cant find these settings and cant follow your solution.
I have already the attachment field on the right side in the jira form settings but i cant (drag and drop) into my jira form, because its only possible when the form is private. At the end i need a public form, so the attachment field is rn disabled.
