Is it possible to automate reassignment of issues using custom fields?

I am attempting to set up an automation rule in a project that will automatically reassign an issue when it is set to a specific workflow status. I have set up a custom field using "user picker" as the type, but am unable to map the automation to this field. Is there any way to ensure this can work?

Instead of using the direct action "Assignee issue";

Try using the "Edit Issue" action;
Put the field "Assignee";
Click on the 3 dots located in the right corner of the field;
Select the option "Copy from...";
Click on "Copy assignee from current issue";
Change the value of "Field to copy value from" to the custom field you created.

Then the "Assignee" field of your issue will be filled with the user present in the user selector field you created.
