Jira creation automation rule - Says run successfully but fails to update field.

Sam Hayes July 27, 2023

I created an automation rule that when a Jira is created, it pre populates the Desc field. The rule works but after so many hours it says it works but fails to update te Desc field. However, audit said it did and even weirder part, the history says it did as well. Including pic of Bland Desc field and history showing it was updated.

Hoping this may have solved my issue. I went to the KISS method. Instead of using the IF/ELSE block for feature type. I broke into three rules. Feature Creation, Epic Creation and Story/Task/Bug creation. I also removed having a comment added.  I just added a label and Edit Description.

Right now it appears to be working with no issues. Especially after the last update was Friday and I had the weekend for the time duration. Tested this morning and it appear to be still working.

I went to the KISS approach.

  1. Removed the IF/ELSE for Issue type and made three separate rules.
  2. Removed the Add comment so all it does now is edit the Description and update Label field

As of now it appears to be work after 48+ hrs since the last comment. Test this morning for new task, Description populated.

Hi @Sam Hayes ,

few things that you can try:

  • Can you try editing the Description manually in the issue view and see if it gets reflected?
  • Do you by any chance have another custom field named 'Description'?
  • Try removing the special effects i.e. the color and heading syntax and see if that works?

  • Can you try editing the Description manually in the issue view and see if it gets reflected? Yes, it did not.
  • Do you by any chance have another custom field named 'Description'? No
  • Try removing the special effects i.e. the color and heading syntax and see if that works? Will try this, but it appears I found another approach that appears to be working which I replied to my original question.

Thank you for you suggestions.

Sam
