Trying to use Smart Values with Next Gen Project

Hello,

We're trying to figure out if JIRA smart values are supported with next gen projects. We're trying to migrate a project to the Next Gen equivalent, and when trying to call smart values for custom fields using Automation, no response is given from JIRA.

I'm reading conflicting information online and trying to identify the best approach here. We tried pulling the custom field ID eg: {{issue.fields.customfield_12493}} for adding Watchers, and adding comments with no response/luck in the audit log. Any advice here is appreciated.

Smart values will work on TMP projects, but you have to reference them by name:
