By migrating, we mean recreating it. There's no way to "migrate" data from a custom_field to a new one.

Well by migrating I mean copying the data from the old field to the new field (if possible).
You could do that using an Automation rule/Scriptrunner script/... even a local script using the API depending on what you have available.
