Edit/Create SLA

Hi community,

We have one SLA in a JSM project with 164k tasks, where it is configured using JQL (5 different JQLs) because 5 teams work in this project, and the fields used to create the JQLs are Assets fields.

I want to change the time in one JQL from 1 hour to 30 minutes. How will Jira behave when editing only the time, or when editing both the JQL and the time? For example, if I create it so that it calculates starting from 01.07.2025, will that change the SLA creation time? (I am analyzing based on SLA edits and creation).

Can someone help me with advice on how to make it so that not all JQL queries from the existing SLA are calculated, but only the tickets I need?

Hi @Petru Negrusa

Good question! Jira Service Management currently doesn’t support partial SLA recalculations. If you edit an SLA's goal or JQL, it will apply the new settings to all issues that match the updated criteria, including closed ones (depending on your SLA behavior settings).

If you're open to using Marketplace add-ons, I recommend trying SLA Time and Report, developed by my team. It offers exactly what you’re looking for:

✅ Recalculate SLA only for selected tickets

✅ Adjust SLA goals or conditions

✅ Use advanced filters to define exactly which tasks should be included

✅ Monitor SLA performance in real time and analyze by team, field, or other fields

This helps avoid mass recalculations that could affect reporting across all 164k issues in your project.

Let me know if you'd like help setting it up. I’d be happy to assist!
