Guide on using CMJ from sandbox to production

Hello Jira Enthusiasts,

I am New to Jira JSM and want Guidance, Resources, any documents to start CMJ from your experiences.

our team focus is to test particular things like settings, configs, automation rules in sand box and have to move to the production.

For Jira Cloud if you are org admin there is a functionality in Jira Cloud to Prepare Sandbox and copy the data from Prod Site to Sandbox.

Organization Admin
Can create and manage sandboxes in  admin.atlassian.com  (Organization Admin Portal).

Has permission to copy all site data (projects, issues, workflows, users, apps, settings) from production site to sandbox.

Can trigger "Copy data to sandbox" which:

Takes a snapshot of production.

Overwrites sandbox data with it.

Users, groups, and permissions are replicated.

Can schedule or trigger on demand.

Steps for Org Admin:

Go to admin.atlassian.com  → Select Org → Products.

Select the Sandbox site under Jira Software / Jira Service Management.

Click "Copy production data".

Choose:

Full copy (all config + data)

Configuration only (projects, workflows, schemes, but no issue data)

Confirm overwrite → Copy begins.

Sandbox refreshed with latest production data.
