There is a user who has searched for certain asset objects using the “Serial number” attribute. He searched for the asset objects via the “Search object” field (see image 1), which can be seen at the top right of the start page of the asset schema.
According to his statement, the search no longer works since Jira Data Center was updated to a new version (version 10.3.3). I could not find a setting in the asset configurations to extend the search to specific attributes. I don't think this is a bug or a problem with the asset attribute indexes, as it is explicitly stated under the search bar that it will only filter by label, id and key (see image 2).
Have I overlooked the setting option? Has the feature been removed? Or is it possible that this feature never existed before? I have now spent 2 1/2 hours researching configuration options for assets and feature changes in the Data Center versions. But I still have no idea where the problem lies. Do you know if it is possible to search for additional object attributes via the “Search objects” search field?
Thank you very much for reading this far! <3

We have the same issue. It was working for 100% before the upgrade.
This has never been possible, you can only find objects via this search option in Assets.
To find objects based on attributes, you will need to use the Filter Search option in an object type.

We've upgraded from Service Management 5.12.23 to 10.3.8 and my team is complaining about that exact thing. While I can't prove it to you I highly doubt that my entire team has had the same dream about the search being able to search for any attribute, not just label, key or id.
This functionality has to have been removed somewhere between those versions.

Then contact Atlassian Support on this topic.

Did anybody manage to get some explanation or at least to find some official info regarding this case?

This should be the corresponding official statement / info from last year: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-Service-Management-articles/UPDATED-DATE-Upcoming-change-Assets-AQL-function-anyAttribute-to/ba-p/2586178
Unfortunately the function seems to be gone with no easy or comparable workaround, it's just deprecated. The bad user experience they're addressing is only really solved if you haven't used the quick search or you have a gajillion assets. The quick search now has less functionality and you have to use Assets' own search (separate page) or use AQL queries. If you know what object types you're looking for, you can use the filters inside each object type.

@Colin Staeger I suspected that the official statement from Atlassian is related primarily to Cloud platform - mainly because they are mentioning date, not any specific version, when this possibility is being retired. But I was not able to find any official information directly regarding Data Center, not even in JSM release notes.

@Juraj Drahoš Yeah it's unfortunate. Usually articles are distinctive if they're cloud, data center or both but this doesn't specify anything. My guess is that it's been affecting all major releases that came out after 31st of March last year.
