Is it possible to search for object attributes in the “Search object" search field?

Lukas Fischer July 3, 2025

There is a user who has searched for certain asset objects using the “Serial number” attribute. He searched for the asset objects via the “Search object” field (see image 1), which can be seen at the top right of the start page of the asset schema.

According to his statement, the search no longer works since Jira Data Center was updated to a new version (version 10.3.3). I could not find a setting in the asset configurations to extend the search to specific attributes. I don't think this is a bug or a problem with the asset attribute indexes, as it is explicitly stated under the search bar that it will only filter by label, id and key (see image 2).

Have I overlooked the setting option? Has the feature been removed? Or is it possible that this feature never existed before? I have now spent 2 1/2 hours researching configuration options for assets and feature changes in the Data Center versions. But I still have no idea where the problem lies. Do you know if it is possible to search for additional object attributes via the “Search objects” search field?

Thank you very much for reading this far! <3

We have the same issue. It was working for 100% before the upgrade.

Hi @Lukas Fischer

This has never been possible, you can only find objects via this search option in Assets.

To find objects based on attributes, you will need to use the Filter Search option in an object type.

Hi @Marc - Devoteam

We've upgraded from Service Management 5.12.23 to 10.3.8 and my team is complaining about that exact thing. While I can't prove it to you I highly doubt that my entire team has had the same dream about the search being able to search for any attribute, not just label, key or id.

This functionality has to have been removed somewhere between those versions.
