We're working on a Jira Service Desk Project containing several forms within it. We've encountered an issue saying that we've reached the limit of the number of fields allowed in a project. See photo attached.
I'm a little confused as when I try to search the community (plus, any informative Jira article online) for the same concern, it seems to consistently suggest that there's no limit and I'm getting the idea that 50 as a limit is too low. Is this really the case? Or is this more of a setting issue that can actually be configured to bypass the said limit?
Right now, the workaround is to separate forms in different projects which isn't really ideal as that will affect reports extraction.
Any inputs would help. Thanks!
>>UPDATE<<
What I mentioned in the answer is not valid anymore.
The documentation was updated and the limit of fields in a next-gen project is 50 and it's not possible to increase it.
Thank you for your understanding in advance.

Hello Jillian,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
Searching for documentations and similar issues, I found out that the limit of fields is 255 and not 50.
You can create up to 255 custom fields in your project.
With that said, 50 custom fields it's a soft limit and it's hardcoded, but it's possible to adjust that.
In order to do that, it will be necessary to contact our support team on support.atlassian.com/contact, because we will need your authorization to access the database to increase the limit of custom fields and this authorization must be done on a ticket and not here in community.
If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.
Regards,
Angélica
