Changing the customer portal in JSM?

Hello!

My boss does not like the customer portal layout in JSM. I know you can change things  like, name, Welcome message, Logo, Announcement. However, our organization is looking to customize more than those things and get away from the templated customer portal. Is there a way to do this?
